Here's a joke I found on YouTube.

Did you hear the one about the Muslim who walked into a gay bar? he looked at the bartender and said "FREE SHOTS FOR EVERYONE!"

Third parties are only as ineffective as you make them.

If you don't vote for a third party because "they'll never win", it becomes true. If all the people who voted Democrat or Republican because they "don't want to waste their vote" voted for their actual party, maybe the two main parties wouldn't be a duopoly.

You know how it feels to find something from your past again?

wdell.com

Walton Dell's website was a pretty big part of my childhood. I found it from looking for Super Mario 64 stuff, and there it was. Then I went to look at the other things, and I was hooked.

If Walton Dell is in the audience, please update it more.

Rest in Peace, ZippCast. 1 March 2014 - 10 June 2016.

As you may or may not have seen, ZippCast is dead. This is a tragedy to me, but it's just a video sharing website. The world will keep turning. So far, as of 10 June, 2016, the servers are being shut down and you will never be able to visit the website again. It did have a cycle of reboots in the past, but Louis, the site owner, seemed sincere this time. It's a shame, too, since ZippCast had the advantage of being large, having a UI reminiscent of YouTube back in 2009 or so, and having mediocre copyright enforcement, which is more than I could say for YouTube. It really is basically like a 2009's YT, but modern. Was, sorry. The closest places in functionality I could find were Upload Society and Wenoo, but I heard bad things about them and probably won't make an account there. The ZC core community of Maklarr4000, NJP, spiderfan, CaptainNnif, mattwo, Cameron, and possibly x51dg I believe it was, correct me if I'm mistaken, Amandablue, Mr_Superannuated, GamingTopTens, possibly Kratos, and Alisson. If there are any former ZippCasters that would be considered part of the core community, please leave your name below. I myself would join but the website has an age limit of the seemingly completely arbitrary 23 years old.

Of course, I have to shout out two important people whom I made my content for in the first place - my subscriber, Maklarr4000, and my colleague in videomaking, Nintendo64World, who introduced me to the friends feature of the website.

The colossal amout of work that goes into developing a game that we will never see is astonishing.

Sure, you've got your coding and all of that, but that's a topic for another post. What I mean is all of the unused, forgotten, or accidental materials that get cut before the release of the game. Like the original story of Half-Lfie 1. The story the game had in the early part of 1997 is that it's 2003, six years in the future, and you're a weapons research scientist that opens a superamplified portal drawing power from a Cold War-era nuclear warhead to an alternate universe, and when aliens come spewing out, you have to fight for your life while the other scientists, security guards, aliens, and even the friggin' CIA try to kill each other on top of you. The CIA in particular is important, since they're about to detonate some explosives in the same building as the nuclear missile from earlier that will wipe out the west half of the United States, so you have to stop them, and also free the alien slaves from their masters and command them into battle against their former owners.

Just that should have made you go "Huh" if you've never read it before.

And other than people into gaming at the time and people who have spent enough time looking for that information to know about it, like me, nobody will ever know that. It just blows me away. The page is currently still up, too, as of 3 June 2016, so you can look at it here. If it stops working, the page has been archived many times, so just pop the link into the Internet Archive and it should work.

And that's not all. In fact, the whole damned game is technically Half-Life 2 in a developmental sense - that means that at least seven Valve-made Half-Life games have ever existed. Half-Life, Half-Life 2 (1998), Half-Life Air Exchange, Half-Life Borealis Control, Half-Life 5 (2004), Half-Life 6 (2006), and Half-Life 7 (2007). That is, based on how different each version was from the last. Allow me to go off topic for a second, but there are four Valve HL games officially released, and two of them are just thirds of the same game. Suck on that "Half-Life 3 is never coming out" people, you've had it since 2006.

As apparently the only human being on the planet who thinks this, let me get this out of the way right now.

I like "bad" graphics. I don't think that low graphical fidelity looks bad, in fact, I think there's a bit of charm in older graphics, as though it's the game being honest with us. But what I don't like in a game is a bad graphical style. It's the difference between TF2 with low settings and no texture filtering and Quake 1. Don't get me wrong - Quake 1 is graphically a good game technically. However, I just can't get behind the grey and black all over the place. Half-Life looks so much better. It's also why I don't like "newer" graphics, and that's not me just being a technohipster, although I can be one at times.
I just legitimately prefer older graphics over newer ones.
Update:
I played the new Ratchet & Clank game demo at Walmart, and it looked pretty good. I'm not going to buy it though.

I Like Xash3D

I like Xash3D. Here's why.

Start the review.

Firstly, we open to the menu. I had the Steam version that I got from registering Half Life, which gave me Ricochet and Day of Defeat, the only two HL-based games I don't have, so it was a nice surprise that I opened it to get this:
It certainly looks like Sierra's Half Life, although it doesn't have the moving logo. I liked it, but it's a minor thing.
We open the game, from my save since I have one, and we see this:
It looks no different from normal Half Life. That's because it isn't.
I guess this thing was less pointed than I thought. It's Half Life, what else can I say?

Well, how about this?
(Update 1st June 2016: When I took this screenshot, I thought the game was bugged. It wasn't, sort of. When I installed the game, it defaulted to rendering the models as left handed models, and to fix it I had to go into the MULTIPLAYER OPTIONS MENU. The most hidden place it could be, rather than putting it in graphics options, where it really belonged.
Hell yes. Do you see that? That is not a rotated image or map. That is strafe bobbing with only a Steam copy of Half Life. I have a copy on CD, but I've lost it along with all the expansions and mods.
This one thing is what made this port stand out above all others.
The mods.
Here's a picture of the actual Alpha at 640x480:
Here's the mod at 960x720:
It has a bunch of fantastic mods and games made with it:
Shaft & In Deep (what you see there), you can use any Half Life game with it, and IONIZATION, which I think is one of the best looking Xash games.
There is one downside to the engine, though:
Yeah. Sorry, guys.
Overall, it's a solid engine that adds to the experience.
8.5/10, I would totally get it if you want to liven up your experience with the game via mods.

13 September, 2003

It's been a long time.

I've been busy is all I can say. Six brown things, eight yellow things, one whitish thing. You know what I mean if you're reading this. We've successfully evacuated a couple cities, salvaging what we can of course, and we're hoping to build up a base out in the forest somewhere, away from the place they show up. As far as we know, they only show up in cities. They're tactical.

I told you all.

Recent acquisitions

Hey guys. I wanted to explain why I haven't posted in a while. You see, I was busy getting some stuff. Nothing big, just setting up a railroad for the survivors to use.

If you haven't noticed, what I said came true. People are dropping like flies now, the population's already been cut by 20%, mostly in China and here in the US. Never would I have thought I could sympathize the most with China.

I just wanted to get this out there.

The line runs from St Ogden to Charleston, but I'm just running from Kansas City to St. Louis. My advice is to get to your local train stations because they won't keep open forever. If you live in Missouri, I'm probably your best bet. 500 miles of track, maybe more if a city gets overrun.

For humanity

Hey, I figured out the power situation.

It turns out that some browns ended up in the machines and killed some workers, so they had to evacuate the facility.

Since I have guns, I went in there and shot the snotrags down. They were tough ones, too, taking two bullets each. I think they're getting stronger. I can't wait for the future, or at least once the military gets here.

In other news, the scientists are working on a new gun. Joy be me. They're calling it the biggest gun I've seen.

Let's hope it shoots plasma, eh?

9 tips to make death a learning experience

Hi, it's me again.

I got about a hundred eighty of the things while you were gone. A couple kids. I don't get why people feel remorse about this, but whatever. This is survival. I know that if I don't kill them, the planet is doomed. So I kill them.

It's been a couple hours since I've had power, I hope it's not permanent.

The power station is just down the road, I think I should go and take a look.

If you're planning on going my route, make sure that you have packed up supplies, the road is tough and there's a couple thousand in the city alone. I suggest JHPs for the little guys, and APs for anything bigger than a human.

.44 magnums work pretty well, but you can stop them with anything bigger than .45 ACP. I've killed monsters with HK33s, M16s, and even crossbows.

One they hid

I've been busy.

I wanted to write earlier, but I was shooting down wild creatures. Three-legged hamdogs are the worst, because they can generate a shockwave with their voice. That sucks. I'm tired and alone, so naturally I'm at my best with my guns.

Whatever. At least I have help with me. I've given a scientist one of my guns and found a former security guard and gave him a revolver.

I thought I killed all of them, but then I heard a higher voice than the ones I'm used to. It was a little one. Probably the runt.

Won't be a problem now, under my boot and full of lead pellets.

Gotta go.
